Has the Current trends in Nigerian Music Industy changed us all?

On Monday I was hanging out with some friends for a program, while engaging in activities (majorly washing and sorting of clothes), we decided to lighten up things by playing music.

Most of the songs being played were majorly Nigerian musics. The likes of Olamode’s Shakiti bobo, Harrysong’s Raggae Blues and other songs in that kind of category.

After a while, 2 face idibia’s award winning Song “African Queen” popped up (even the owner of the phone who was supplying the music did not know he had that kind of song on his phone). You need to see the expressions on people’s faces. Comments such as “its too dull” , “No Ginger”, “This is old fashioned”……….bla bla bla took the air.

The same thing happened to Brymo’s song “Jeleosimi” and even Timi Dakolo’s trending song “Wish me well’. I was forced to talk.. Seems any song that does not have a dance hall beat or totally secular (with no meaniful lyrics), is what makes sense now in Nigeria!

What do you think? Or Is it just my friends?

  1. Wow! This blog looks exactly like my old one! It’s on a entirely different topic but it
has pretty much the same page layout and design. Excellent choice of colors!

  2. Seriously, I am really pissed with most songs that comes from naija recently. They are mostly senseless and are too crude. Just the beats. And I expect more.
